Welcome to Songwriting Business. This is a very exciting project for me as it’s been rattling around in my brain for many years and I’ve finally had the courage to actually do it.
Let me tell you a little bit about why I’ve decided to start this :
Firstly, there are NO good songwriting websites out there that actually help people understand the fundamentals about songwriting. To me, i make an incredible living out of my music. I write songs every day for various reasons, some for business, some for my own numerous personal projects. Even though songwriting is artistic and about expression, that is only half of it : there is a whole world of techniques beneath the surface.
It’s a little like a great card trick. To most people they look simple (that’s the magic), but to a magician, years and years have gone into learning sleight of hand techniques, how to manipulate the emotions of the viewer, distraction, delivery, performance, expression and also knowing the mastery behind a good trick. Anyone can perform a simple card trick. But only people who have mastered the craft can perform a brilliant illusion.
And like magic, Songwriting is a business. I have made more money out of my songwriting than any other business venture I have ever been involved in. But it’s not because I’m the worlds greatest songwriter! I’m without-a-doubt not. But i’ve taken the time to study the techniques and master the craft, and learn the business of Songwriting.
This site aims at exploring the business of songwriting on many levels. First by introducing new interested people who have always dreamed about songwriting about how to get started. And then, to up-and-coming artists, to hone your craft solidly and show exactly how you can monetize your skill.
Because songwriting is a skill, like any other. And one that is valuable if you take the time to master it.
I look forward to the journey.
Please take the time to give me feedback and comments below. I’m going to be including a podcast as well interviewing many successful songwriters in coming weeks about their particular techniques too. So any suggestions/comments – I’d like to know what YOU would like to know about.
